DESCRIPTION:Drummer/Vibraphonist/Saxophonist Smith Dobson V has been performing in the Bay Area for nearly twenty years. Originally from Santa Cruz\, Ca.\, Dobson is a member of an important Jazz family. His father\, the late Smith Dobson IV\, was a world renown Pianist and director of the Jazz series at the Garden City in San Jose for over twenty years\, where he accompanied artists’ like Art Pepper\, Stan Getz\, Bobby Hutcherson\, Harold Land\, Chet Baker\, Red Norvo\, Tal Farlow\, and Lee Konitz\, to name a few. \nAlso in the family\, Grandfather Smith III is a Jazz Accordionist\, Grandmother Norma\, Mother Gail\, and Sister Sasha are all Jazz Vocalists. The family often performed as a group at the Garden City\, and other venues\, as well as many local schools and workshops. As a child\, Smith V had the opportunity to study with legendary Jazz Drummer Albert “Tootie” Heath\, who said of his pupil\, “He has the talent\, determination and persistence as a musician\, combined with the dedication necessary to succeed… improvisational skills totally advanced\, excellent sensitivity\, both solo and as an accompanist… my most talented student!” \nSmith has had the honor of working with some of the great Jazz artists\, locally and internationally\, such as Bobby Hutcherson\, Red Rodney\, John Handy\, Sheila Jordan\, Red Holloway\, Pete and Conte Condoli\, Phillip Harper\, Hal Stein\, Noel Jewekes\, Ben Goldberg\, Graham Connahs’ Sour Note Seven\, Darren Johnstone\, Will Bernard\, and Kenny Brooks.

DESCRIPTION:Amina Scott\, born and raised in Oakland\, CA\, is an upright and electric bassist\, educator\, composer\, and arranger. Her interest in music began at an early age when her grandmother began giving her piano lessons. From then\, her love and passion for music has yet to cease\, playing electric bass when she was 12 years old and was soon playing shows with local bands in Oakland. In 2017\, Amina was chosen to become a fellow at Ravinia Steans Institute of Music where she was coached by Billy Childs\, Rufus Reid\, and Nathan Davis. In New Orleans\, Amina leads her own bands\, some of which have performed all over including major festivals such as the Ascona Jazz Festival and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. In 2025\, she was chosen as the Healdsburg Jazz Festival Rising Star Artist in Residence. Additionally\, she has performed and toured with various artists including Nicholas Payton\, Joanne Brackeen\, Don Vappie\, Ingrid Jensen\, Herlin Riley\, Dee Dee Bridgewater\, Randy Brecker\, Christian Scott Atunde Adjuah\, and more. In addition to performing\, Amina is an avid composer. She has been commissioned to write arrangements for the Next Generation Big Band in New Orleans\, LA as well as the Dee Dee Bridgewater Big Band. Amina continues to forge her own path as a trailblazing artist; while staying true to the musical lineage as well as herself\, Amina is able to captivate audiences around the world with her music and her story. As an educator\, she currently holds positions at Loyola University New Orleans\, which she has held since 2019\, and University of New Orleans. Eytan is a recent graduate of The Juilliard School\, with a Master’s degree in Jazz Bass Performance\, where he studied under the mentorship of jazz virtuosos Gerald Cannon\, Ron Carter\, Ben Wolfe\, Donald Vega and Billy Drummond. With a vibrant career that spans the jazz scenes of New York City\, San Francisco Bay Area\, and more\, Eytan has performed at renowned festivals and household venues including BlueNote NYC\, Dizzy’s Jazz at Lincoln Center\, SFJAZZ\, The Anthem DC (opening for Lalah Hathaway)\, DC Jazz Festival\, The Monterey Jazz Festival\, and Smalls among many others. \nHe plays for Matthew Whitaker and Langston Hughes II and has performed with acclaimed musicians such as Quincy Phillips\, Lucas Pino\, Mike King\, Christopher McBride\, Lawrence Fields and more. DESCRIPTION:Tomoko Funaki was born in Japan into a musical family. Following in the footsteps of her parents\, both musicians\, she studied classical violin and flute. A move to New York exposed her to a broad range of musical genres but she found herself increasingly drawn towards jazz. After moving to San Francisco in 2002\, she began studying upright bass and quickly immersed herself into the San Francisco jazz scene\, studying and performing with luminaries including Ray Drummond\, Rodney Whitaker\, Rufus Reid\, the Marcus Shelby Jazz Orchestra\, Andrew Speight\, Vince Lateano\, Mark Levine\, Donald “Duck” Bailey\, Allan Harris and Denise Perrier. She has also been involved in jazz education programs such as ‘Stanford Jazz Workshop’ and SFSU ICA ‘The Generations Jazz Project’ in recent years.

DESCRIPTION:Amina Scott\, born and raised in Oakland\, CA\, is an upright and electric bassist\, educator\, composer\, and arranger. Her interest in music began at an early age when her grandmother began giving her piano lessons. From then\, her love and passion for music has yet to cease\, playing electric bass when she was 12 years old and was soon playing shows with local bands in Oakland. In 2017\, Amina was chosen to become a fellow at Ravinia Steans Institute of Music where she was coached by Billy Childs\, Rufus Reid\, and Nathan Davis. In New Orleans\, Amina leads her own bands\, some of which have performed all over including major festivals such as the Ascona Jazz Festival and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. In 2025\, she was chosen as the Healdsburg Jazz Festival Rising Star Artist in Residence. Additionally\, she has performed and toured with various artists including Nicholas Payton\, Joanne Brackeen\, Don Vappie\, Ingrid Jensen\, Herlin Riley\, Dee Dee Bridgewater\, Randy Brecker\, Christian Scott Atunde Adjuah\, and more. In addition to performing\, Amina is an avid composer. She has been commissioned to write arrangements for the Next Generation Big Band in New Orleans\, LA as well as the Dee Dee Bridgewater Big Band. Amina continues to forge her own path as a trailblazing artist; while staying true to the musical lineage as well as herself\, Amina is able to captivate audiences around the world with her music and her story.
