While at UCSC he studied jazz piano with Smith Dobson. \nAdam can also be seen as a sideman with countless bay area musicians and vocalists such as\, Marcus Shelby\, Anton Schwartz\, Andrew Speight\, Erik Jekabson\, Ed Reed\, Mike Olmos\, Gary Brown\, Patrick Wolff\, John Wiitala\, Vince Lateano\, Faye Carol\, Kellye Gray\, Ian Carey\, and Mike Zilber among many others. \nAdam has played as a sideman with internationally renowned artists Stefon Harris\, Willie Jones III\, Dayna Stephens\, Miguel Zenon\, Mark Murphy\, Alan Harris\, Luciana Souza\, Paula West\, Larry Coryell\, Sean Jones\, Grant Stewart\, John Clayton\, Bobby Hutcherson\, Bria Skonberg and with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. \nIn addition to his sideman work\, Adam is a composer and arranger. DESCRIPTION:Called “a force on the rise” by JazzTimes magazine\, Alison Shearer’s explosive career hits refresh on what it means to be a jazz saxophonist today. Shearer is the kind of artist who is always asking “why.” She wants to find the similarities between seemingly disparate things\, and in doing so hopefully find something human in everything. Shearer has performed across the United States\, Europe\, Canada\, and South Asia\, both with her quartet and as a member of Red Baraat and Sunny Jain’s Wild Wild East. She has performed with notable artists such as Kurt Elling\, Nate Smith\, Charlie Hunter\, Ben Platt\, Billy Porter\, Kelly O’Hara\, Jason Robert Brown\, Josh Groban\, and the wonderful Orchestra of St. Luke’s. She has appeared on both NPR’s Tiny Desk and KEXP with Sunny Jain’s Wild Wild East. \nAlison gathered her eponymous Quartet in 2015. She writes the group’s music\, and their soulful\, melodic take on fusion found immediate acclaim in New York City\, where the group got its start. Their first record\, View From Above\, was named one of NPR’s Top Ten Albums of the Year and was an Editor’s Choice in Jazz Times. Her most recent release In The Garden (Pinch Records) came out on October 10\, 2025 and was named a best October release by NPR\, which led to an interview with Alison Stewart on WNYC. \nAlison premiered her first ever chamber work for the classical stage in April 2024 to a sold-out audience at USCB Center for the Arts in Beaufort\, South Carolina. The piece\, “Apollosis”\, commissioned by USCB Chamber Music and written for alto saxophone and piano sextet\, got rave reviews and kicked off a flurry of engagements and additional commissions. In 2025 Alison got a record deal with Pinch Records and a second commission from USCB Chamber Music – this time for alto saxophone\, marimba\, piano\, and voice. ROCO Symphony in Houston Texas commissioned Shearer’s first orchestral work\, which will be a saxophone concert based on the abstract artwork of her late father\, acclaimed LIFE photojournalist\, John Shearer. The piece will be premiered at the opening of their 2026 – 2027 season. \nAlison is a passionate teacher and has maintained a private studio for 18 years. She is on faculty at the Jazz at Lincoln Center High School Jazz Academy and at Jazz House Kids\, where her work with young students fosters community building through jazz education. DESCRIPTION:The big guy from out West and larger than life energy (he’s also 6’5’) performer\, guitarist\, singer\, banjoist\, songwriter\, composer\, entertainer\, musical historian and teacher Mitch Polzak wears his heart on his sleeve and his playing in his heart. \nPolzak performs rockabilly and 60’s country music with the religious fervor of Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash and delivers a Honky Tonk ballad with the sincerity of Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings. Mitch will bring a room to a fevered pitch of joyous energy on the dance floor and then tell you a story in a song like two old friends sitting at a kitchen table at midnight. \nHis virtuosic guitar skills and influences range from the blazing flying fingers of Joe Maphis \, Marty Stuart\, Roy Clark\, and Don Rich to the timeless dreamlike state of “Sleepwalk” by Santo and Johnny along with the vast valleys of deep rumbling twang associated with Duane Eddy. \nThere is not one singular definition of Polzak’s music but that is very specific to what he does. Being fluent in the musical languages of Country\, Rockabilly\, Honky Tonk\, The Bakersfield Sound\, Surf\, early Rock and Roll\, Bluegrass\, Cajun\, Blues\, and Truck Driving music gives Polzak the unique voice of the melting pot of the American musical experience. This is why he consistently connects with so many people directly at every show. \nPolzak’s abundant joy in communicating with people through music leaps off the stage through every fiber of his being. His near-constant genuine smile can be seen clear across the room and invites you in without any pretense or judgements. Some call him “The Honky Tonk Mister Rogers”! \nMake no mistake though. Underneath that smile is a deep and reverent respect for the history and integrity of the music and musicians who came before him and created the sounds and told their stories. \nJust as Waylon Jennings created his own outlaw sound\, as Johnny Cash could never be put in a box\, the full throttle intensity of Jerry Lee Lewis’s rock and roll grabs us and takes to a time and place\, Polzak’s live show has the unvarnished purity of the Bakersfield Sound paying homage to his California musical heroes Buck Owens\, Merle Haggard\, Wynn Stewart and Dwight Yokam. It’s a heaping helping\, but a Mitch Polzak show brings all of these musical flavors to the table in a potluck of American musical flavor. \nPolzak learned firsthand from some of his musical influences\, sharing the stage with legends like Don Maddox of The Maddox Bros. and Rose\, deeply respected contemporary and friend Deke Dickerspn\, The Ragin’ Cajun Doug Kershaw\, Rockabilly icons Joe Clay and Gene Summers\, former Bluegrass Boy and West Coast music pioneer Peter Rowan and Cajun greats Jimmy Breaux\, Andrew Carriere\, and Blake Miller. He has also shared the bill with Brian Setzer\, Jerry Lee Lewis\, Duane Eddy\, The Stray Cats\, Big Sandy and The Fly Rite Boys\, and Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives.
