SUMMARY:Gaucho Jazz
DESCRIPTION:Gaucho is a masterful Bay Area band that combines the influence of gypsy jazz of 1930’s Europe with the rhythmic drive and collective improvisation of New Orleans swing music\, gutbucket blues and elements of ragtime. Their sound\, a uniquely American concoction\, blends instrumental acuity and lighthearted humor that keep their audience coming back for more. As founder\, guitarist\, and main composer Dave Ricketts says\, the band is “in love with the music of Louis Armstrong\, Fats Waller and Jimmie Rodgers\, as well as the stories\, the life styles and the foot steps of hundreds of other great jazz\, blues\, country and rock musicians that created the sound of American Music from roughly 1900-1950’s” \nGaucho has recorded eight albums\, tours regularly\, and has an increasing repertoire of over forty original tunes. Seven of their tunes are featured in the 2012 film “Trattoria”; one was chosen by the Metropolitan Museum of Art for their website; and another is featured in the outtakes section of the Pixar DVD CARS 2. In 2018\, Gaucho got a song in the Hollywood Movie “Destination Wedding” starring Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder. And two of Dave’s own compositions will be placed in a New York City based indie film\, “Stationed at Home\,” in 2022. \nLed by eminent guitarist\, Dave Ricketts\, the group has been a San Francisco mainstay for nearly twenty years\, and one of the busiest bands in the bay area playing 5 to 10 gigs a week. Together with virtuosos Rob Reich–accordion and Craig Venetresco–guitar\, superlative bassist Ari Munkres\, the honorable Leon Oakley–cornet\, and versatile percussionist Steve Apple\, these guys keep crowds moving with their beats and complex rhythms.

SUMMARY:Magic School Busk
DESCRIPTION:Experience the ultimate “living theater” of North Beach as The Magic School Busk takes up their weekly residency directly in front of The Red Window. Positioned at the vibrant\, sun-soaked corner of Stockton and Columbus\, this high-energy busking collective captures the spontaneous spirit of the neighborhood. \nThe performance is a masterclass in Street Swing and improvisational Jazz. Drawing from the “busking” tradition of New Orleans and the European “Hot Club” sound\, the ensemble specializes in acoustic music that is both technically brilliant and completely unpretentious. The line-up is fluid\, often featuring a “who’s who” of local instrumentalists who bring a “restless melodicism” to classic standards and upbeat\, toe-tapping originals. \nThe Magic School Busk is more than just a band; they are the neighborhood’s “resident joy-makers.” Because they perform on the street level\, the barrier between musician and audience disappears\, inviting passersby to stop\, dance\, and engage with the music in real-time. Whether you are enjoying a gin tonic on the Red Window’s outdoor patio or just walking by with a cannoli in hand\, the band provides an elite\, soulful soundtrack that defines the modern North Beach experience. \n\nAbout The Magic School Busk\nBorn from the city’s post-pandemic “street-side” revival\, The Magic School Busk is a collective of veteran Bay Area musicians dedicated to the art of public performance. They emphasize the “acoustic and the authentic\,” eschewing heavy amplification for the natural resonance of brass\, strings\, and woodwinds. Often featuring members from some of the city’s most popular jazz and swing outfits\, the “Busk” is celebrated for its ability to read a crowd and create a party out of thin air. They represent the best of San Francisco’s musical resilience—keeping the city’s culture loud\, proud\, and accessible to everyone on the street. \n

SUMMARY:Stu Silverman Band
DESCRIPTION:Guitarist Stu Silverman fronts his band at the Comstock Saloon. \nStep into the storied halls of Comstock Saloon\, where the mahogany bar and vintage belt-driven fans set the stage for one of San Francisco’s most versatile guitarists. Stu Silverman brings a refined yet soulful energy to the room\, blending technical jazz precision with a raw\, bluesy edge that feels right at home in this historic North Beach landmark. \nThe Music: Silverman is a standout on the Jazz Box and Electric Guitar\, known for his work leading the Stu Silverman Quartet and the Stu Crew. His sets at Comstock often feature a mix of jazz standards\, intricate bebop lines\, and a touch of psychedelic-tinged blues. Whether he’s performing solo electric or fronting a trio\, expect a performance defined by melodic warmth and rhythmic drive. \nThe Setting: Founded in 1907\, Comstock Saloon is a beautifully restored “museum of drinking.” The music stage is positioned perfectly to allow the sound of a hollow-body guitar to fill the high-ceilinged room\, creating a sophisticated backdrop for conversation and cocktails. \nThe Menu: Comstock is world-renowned for its pre-Prohibition cocktail program. Pair Silverman’s set with a Martinez or a Cherry Bounce\, and don’t miss their elevated tavern menu featuring the famous Monkey Bread or local oysters. \nThe Experience: Unlike the louder blues halls nearby\, a night with Stu Silverman at Comstock is a polished\, “cool” affair. It’s where jazz aficionados and cocktail enthusiasts meet to appreciate high-fidelity musicianship in a space that has hosted North Beach revelers for over a century.

SUMMARY:Eamonn Flynn & Dublinesque

Everyone would participate – if you couldn’t hold a tune you’d perform a ‘recitation’ or tell a joke!\n“There was never any delineation between genres of music – whether it was Irish tunes and ballads\, soul music or a Beatles song\,” he emphasizes.\nThe band brings together three talented Bay Area Irish traditional musicians: fellow Irishman Félim Egan (The Black Brothers) on accordion\, local favorite Darcy Noonan on fiddle\, and from Basque country\, Spain\, Hector Bragado on banjo. SUMMARY:The Good Bad\, Meredith Edgar and Rob Summerlin
DESCRIPTION:The Good Bad was formed in San Francisco\, California in 2010 by Aaron Lanes and Thom Beneudici. Over the past decade and a half\, The Good Bad have shared stages with The Brothers Comatose\, The Lil Smokies\, Front Country\, Della Mae\, toured Europe\, played prestigious festivals like Winter Wondergrass and performed at countless weddings\, parties and events across the Bay Area and beyond. The Good Bad utilizes original songwriting while continually employing traditional and contemporary bluegrass in addition to pop and Top 40 favorites. Three part harmonies\, instrumental virtuosity and high octane string music are hallmarks of The Good Bad. The five piece band currently includes Aaron Lanes (mandolin\, guitar\, vocals)\, Peter Domenici (banjo\, vocals)\, Tom Conneely (guitar\, vocals)\, Gabe Wheaton (fiddle\, vocals) and Noah Zisser (bass\, vocals). \nMeredith Edgar is a San Francisco-born\, Bay-Area-raised singer-songwriter with a voice that Cindy Emch of Secret Emchy Society says “sounds like she stepped out of the starring singer role in a David Lynch movie.” A lifelong singer and performer\, she started writing and playing originals at open mics when she was just 14. Over the years she’s honed her unique sound through the influence of such musical artists as Billie Holiday\, Jolie Holland\, Fiona Apple\, Morphine\, Julie London\, and Gillian Welch. \nEdgar’s songs have been described as melancholic\, melodic\, and deeply personal. Upon hearing the song “Tidal Waves\,” Ari Notis\, staff writer for Kotaku\, said that Edgar’s “buttery vocals” affected him far more than he was prepared for. Her songs\, says singer-songwriter Paul Griffiths “are a haunting\, melodic mix of passion and melancholy” in which she “fearlessly explores feelings and reactions to her own times and artfully makes them universal.” Edgar has shared bills with acts such as Mark Eitzel\, Noelle Fiore (Noelle & the Deserters)\, Andrés Miguel Cervantes\, Brian Belknap\, Greg Hoy\, Minor Birds\, The Pine Box Boys\, Paula Frazer & Tarnation\, Jacob Aranda\, The Crooked Jades\, The Waybacks\, and more. \nRob Summerlin is an award-winning filmmaker\, illustrator\, songwriter\, artist. He mostly writes songs about eccentric characters on the fringe of society. \n

SUMMARY:Sunday Artist Series
DESCRIPTION:End your week with a rhythmic bang at the Sunday Artist Series\, a weekly institution at Tupelo that transforms North Beach into a soulful dance party. Hosted by the versatile Shawn Stein\, this residency is built around an “all-pro” house band that provides a world-class foundation for a rotating cast of the Bay Area’s most powerhouse vocalists. From 8:00 PM to midnight\, the room sheds its weekday grit for a polished\, high-fidelity exploration of funk\, R&B\, and soul\, making it the definitive “musician’s hangout” in the neighborhood. \nThe magic of the series lies in its unpredictability and its caliber of talent. Because a different guest artist takes the lead each week\, the sound can pivot from the brassy energy of a James Brown-style funk review to the smooth\, sophisticated textures of modern neo-soul. It is a space where local legends and touring pros often drop in to sit with the band\, creating a “who’s who” environment for the San Francisco music scene. The house band is known for their “deep pocket” and the ability to back any style with technical precision and infectious joy. \nThe atmosphere at Tupelo during the Artist Series is electric yet welcoming\, drawing a diverse crowd of neighborhood regulars\, off-duty musicians\, and soul aficionados. Set against the venue’s classic red-lit stage and historic Grant Avenue backdrop\, the event offers a rare opportunity to experience an elite\, high-energy “dance party throw-down” with no cover charge. Whether you are there to dance off the weekend or simply to appreciate the highest level of local musicianship\, the Sunday Artist Series ensures that the spirit of North Beach soul remains loud and alive.

Each week features a different special guest vocalist\, ensuring that the “soul” of the night is always fresh and evolving. \nA Networking Hub: Monday nights at Tupelo act as the unofficial headquarters for off-duty working musicians. It’s a place where bandleaders scout for subs\, songwriters find collaborators\, and the community gathers to celebrate the raw\, unscripted power of live music. \nNo Cover\, All Access: Despite the world-class musicianship on display\, there is no cover charge. It provides an accessible “masterclass” environment for fans who want to see how the city’s musical engine runs behind the scenes. \n\nAbout the Invitational Jam\nFounded on the belief that San Francisco needs a consistent home for professional musical dialogue\, the Invitational Jam has outlasted countless other sessions in the city. Hosts Andrew Coutti and Young Blake are veteran players known for their “unprecedented chemistry” and ability to back any guest with a rock-solid\, funky foundation.
