Lori Carsillio: Blossom Meets Bill

“Blossom Meets Bill” is a celebration of two great jazz artists and an exploration of the special connection between the piano and the voice.
Vocalist/Pianist Blossom Dearie (1924 – 2009) was considered to be a “musician’s musician” and her girlish, airy voice was as distinctive as her intimate playing style. She often accompanied herself on piano and embodied a symbiosis between singer and piano.
Legendary pianist Bill Evans (1929 – 1980), with his unique approach to harmony and innovative chord voicings, credited Blossom Dearie as one of his major influences. During his tragically short career, Evans played with Miles Davis and other jazz giants, but his rare collaborations with vocalists – most notably Tony Bennett – created some of the most beautiful piano/vocal duets recorded.
Join vocalist Lori Carsillo, along with renowned Bay Area pianist Ben Stolorow, bassist Eric Markowitz, and multi-instrumentalist Smith Dobson V on drums, as they present an evening of music that evokes the spirit of Blossom & Bill and warms the heart and stirs the soul.
Lori Carsillo
Known for her deep and thoughtful interpretations of the Great American Songbook, San Francisco Bay Area native Lori Carsillo was raised on a healthy diet of Julie London, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, Bill Evans, and other jazz greats, augmented by an early and enduring exposure to classical music. Her unique phrasing and less-is-more sound has led her to perform at such renowned venues as SFJAZZ, Yoshi’s, Albuquerque’s The Outpost, as well as international events such as the Fillmore Jazz Festival and Santa Fe Music Collective Jazz Series.
As a master songstress and storyteller, Carsillo has released five diverse albums and a multitude of singles to date. She continues to delve into songwriting and the worlds of theater, video production and film. As an artist—one with an insatiable desire to create—she is driven to bring her unique flavor of jazz to brand new audiences, and take it to bold new heights.
