Chris Siebert & Joules Broussard

Chris Siebert on the Hammond Organ and the legendary saxophonist Jules Broussard!

Prepare to be transported into a “Twin Peaks” dreamscape of deep red lighting and vintage curiosities at The Royal Cuckoo Organ Lounge. This evening features a rare, high-fidelity collaboration between two of San Francisco’s most respected jazz and blues veterans. With the house Hammond B3 organ built directly into the bar, the barrier between the music and the patrons vanishes, creating one of the most intimate listening experiences in the city.

The Artists

Jules Broussard (Saxophone): A true Bay Area icon and a “star of the USA,” Broussard is a Louisiana-born master who has spent over 50 years on the world stage. His resume reads like a history of modern music, having recorded and performed with luminaries such as Ray Charles, Carlos Santana, Boz Scaggs, and Van Morrison. Awarded “Best Reed Player” by the Bammies, he brings a versatile style that dances effortlessly between gritty blues, soulful R&B, and sophisticated jazz.

Chris Siebert (Hammond Organ): The musical director for the legendary Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers, Siebert is a virtuoso of the “mighty” Hammond organ. A master of the Swing Era, boogie-woogie, and blues, his soulful, swinging lines provide the rhythmic heartbeat of the Cuckoo.

The Experience

The Sound: Expect a set rooted in the “Organ Lounge” tradition of the 1950s and 60s. The duo specializes in soulful jazz and deep blues, where the warmth of Broussard’s reed meets the percussive, swirling textures of Siebert’s Hammond B3.

The Atmosphere: Settle into a salvaged church pew or a cozy leather armchair under the watchful eyes of a velvet Burt Reynolds. The Royal Cuckoo is famous for its analog authenticity—strictly pre-1975 vinyl when the band isn’t playing, and a cocktail program that prioritizes mid-century craftsmanship.

The Crowd: This is where the “heavy cats” from SFJAZZ and the local neighborhood underground collide. It’s a place to sip a Royal Ginger Snap or a hot apple cider and feel the music rather than just hear it.
