The Jazz Suffragists
The Jazz Suffragists is a post-bop quintet led by jazz veterans Rebecca Coupe Franks (trumpet) and Jessica Jones (tenor saxophone). With a focus on the music of their early heroes like Art Blakey and Wayne Shorter, the band also features its own originals.
Franks has worked with Joe Henderson, Kenny Barron, Cindy Blackman, and Jimmy Heath, among others. Latest releases of her original music include 2024’s “Landscape Suites for Trumpet,” featuring an 11-piece chamber jazz ensemble, and her 2022 release “Planets,” featuring Jonathan Blake, Luis Perdomo, and Larry Grenadier.
Jones leads her eponymous Quartet, which features original music, has several critically acclaimed recordings out, and plays major US clubs and festivals. She has worked with Joseph Jarman, Cecil Taylor, and Don Cherry, among others. She is a Jerome Fellow and received grants from JazzRoad and the NEA.
