The History
If the walls of the Savoy Tivoli could talk, they would recite beat poetry and sing cabaret. Opened in 1907 as “New Tivoli,” it originally served as a boarding house and restaurant for the Italian immigrants rebuilding the city after the great earthquake. By the 1960s and 70s, it had transformed into the epicenter of North Beach’s bohemian culture. It was the preferred hangout for the Beat Generation icons and famously served as the original home of Beach Blanket Babylon—the world’s longest-running musical revue—which premiered on its stage in 1974.
The Vibe
The Savoy Tivoli is defined by its European-café-meets-California-cool aesthetic. After a major renovation and reopening in late 2022, the space has preserved its legendary soul while gaining a polished, modern edge. It features a unique indoor-outdoor feel thanks to its large, open-front windows that look out onto the bustling Grant Avenue. It is a place where you can feel the weight of SF history while enjoying a contemporary cocktail or a local craft beer.

Jules Broussard’s New Orleans Jazz Band: A cornerstone of the venue’s live music program is the legendary Jules Broussard. A true master of the craft who is nearing his 89th birthday, Broussard is famously known for his incredible ability to play two saxophones simultaneously.
