Stookey’s Blue Room is the sultry, music-forward companion to the legendary Stookey’s Club Moderne. Opened in early 2024, it expands the owners’ devotion to “Streamline Moderne” aesthetics, creating a space that feels like a 1940s film noir set. While Club Moderne focuses on the art of the pre-war cocktail, the Blue Room is designed as a dedicated performance salon, complete with glossy blue walls, a shimmer of disco-ball light, and a cozy stage that brings guests face-to-face with some of the city’s finest jazz and cabaret artists.
Founded by Tim Stookey, Leslie Cole, and Aaron Cole, the “Stookey’s Duo” is a love letter to a specific era of San Francisco glamour. The interior details are meticulous, from the porthole door windows and white-jacketed bartenders to the vintage glassware sourced from local auctions. By expanding into the Blue Room, the team has successfully revived the spirit of the mid-century “supper club” (minus the dinner), providing a polished but welcoming refuge for those who prefer their martinis served with a side of live syncopation.
Eclectic Entertainment Program: The venue features live entertainment five nights a week. The programming is impressively diverse, ranging from traditional bebop and swing trios to “Lavender Cabaret” shows, drag performances, and themed film screenings.
Signature Jazz Residencies: You’ll find top-tier local jazz talent here, with regular appearances by artists like the Trio Côtier, pianist Ken Chou, and jazz vocalist Kim Nalley. Many weeknight sets (Wednesday/Thursday) are offered with no cover charge, though a small donation for the band is encouraged.
Vintage Cocktail Nerdery: The drink menu is a deep dive into cocktail history, categorizing drinks by their year of origin (spanning 1900–1990). Must-tries include their signature Blue Room (gin, Cocchi Americano, and blue curacao) and the Stookey’s Aviation.
